The One that Got Away by Kenny Loggins

What do you think is the story behind the story of the song?

  • It was a story of a family wherein, the husband is living separately from his wife and son. He's living alone for years, wanting to see his son grow. Even though their distant to each other he's willing to wait again, to be forgiven because he was not a good father to him. He wanted his son to know that he loved him so much and living separately will not change a thing.

What could have been the implicit and explicit message of the composer?

  • The Father is longing for his son for the past years. He wants to catch up the years he was gone. He's willing to wait until his son is ready to forgive him. He'll accept who and what his son is.  No matter what happen, he wanted to tell his son that his a big part of his life and nothing will change the fact that he is his father.

How do you relate with the theme of the song?

  • Through my family, because my father is also living separately with us. The song really strucked me, right from the start until the end. It has a meaningful message for everyone especially for the people living separately from his or her loved ones. It made me realize things that I never thought I would.

How creative and critically minded the composer is?

  • The lyrics are written from the heart. The composer poured out his feelings, thoughts and emotions to the poem he composed. He made the song special because of the message he wants to say to all the listeners, both adult and teens. The composer made the lyrics clear to everyone who'll gonna hear the song. He's consistent in making the lyrics out of love.
